We chose Carnival because of its convenience to where we live (KY). We had never cruised before and so we thought we would start with a port close by (8 hours by car) and this was the only cruise company in and out of the Charleston port. (We also love to visit Charleston). We weren't sure just what to expect since Carnival has a name for being a party or "fun" ship cruise line but I have to admit I was impressed with the overall experience and with Carnival. The cruise was enjoyable although, as feared, most outer deck activities (i.e., Lido deck and adjacent lounging areas) were attuned to younger clientele. It was hard to find a quiet place to just lounge and read a book. The Serenity Deck (quiet spot) was always full and hard to find an empty lounge chair. Still, we had a wonderful and memorable trip. The staff and crew were very pleasant and the food was very good. We enjoyed the variety on the dinner menu especially the "didja" items(speaking for myself and not my wife on this catagory.) The escargot, shark, and alligator (to name only a few) were delicious. The chefs are to be congratulated. The cabin staff was nothing short of excellent. Anto always had our bedroom and bathroom spotless and well maintained. We would definitely go again.

Fantasy -- great cruise for the money!, September 7, 2010

My husband and I were on the Fantasy in August 2009 to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first time to cruise, and we loved it! The rooms are well designed with lots of storage. The beds and bedding are super comfy, and the attendants do an amazing job of keeping the room clean and ice in the ice bucket. The staff was extremely friendly, especially the waiters in the main dining room. They remembered our names and would greet us by name even if we were out somewhere else on the ship! We enjoyed the food in the main dining room. The buffet in the Lido area was okay, pretty standard buffet fare. They have an omelet station for breakfast and pizza available all day. We both really liked the Mongolian-style grill, although the wait was usually long. We loved having breakfast in the main dining room and wished we had taken advantage of this option more! Our favorite thing was the adults-only Serenity retreat. It was so relaxing to lie on the deck chairs and watch the ocean. Would definitely cruise on this ship again!

For my first cruise, I was doubtful, but it consistently won me over, September 7, 2010

Pros: In the morning, everything is quiet and peaceful, just like I like it

Cons: Walkways through pool areas are crowded, inconvenient

Date of cruise: August 13, 2009

Departure port: New Orleans

Region visited: Mexico

Cabin category: Inside

My wife found this cruise so I decided to go on it. I'm not a boat person, and not generally a travel person, but more of a sit around and relax kind of guy. Excursions sounded novel, but not enticingly so. Amenities sounded pleasant, but not anything to write home about. But my wife has always found it easy to convince me of things, so away we went. I want to go again. There were so many little things that were wonderful: Room service, the quality of the food, pleasant dining rooms, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and quiet moments to view sunrises and sunsets. Mind you, we do not care for drinking, dancing, and gambling, and like to get to bed early, so many of the most crowded areas of the ship were ones we naturally didn't encounter, and the places we went were usually only occupied by a few others. Fine by us. The dining was quite nice, though a few of the more esoteric/ ethnically diverse menu options weren't there as often as I'd like. The quality of the food was very nice. Even the reuben sandwich I got from room service was one of the better ones I've had. If I had any negative things to mention about the trip, it would be the following: Due to the layout of the ship, we would have to walk through a pool section to get from A to B quite often. This pool section was inconvenient in that it was occupied by annoying and rowdy college-age people. Still, not the worst thing in the word. Next, the gym had good equipment, but was slightly inadequate for the population. All equipment was always in use, with people standing to wait: the definition of over-capacity. Finally, and this is just personal taste, the one night we went to the show, we went because it was a Beatles review. As a Beatles fan, I more mildly disappointed than surprised that the daring, innovative, and energetic songs were transformed into tepid showtunes -- I could not imagine Lennon's voice cracking as he strained to sing "Twist and Shout." So we left, our suspicions confirmed; no harm, no foul. It just wasn't "for" us. However, despite any tiny or occasional problems, everything was so comforting, pleasant, and just plain nice that I can't wait to cruise again. My wife is happy with that.

I have a family of four. We had a blast! Food is really good, especially the seafood! Even if you're on a strict diet they can accomodate you! There was something for every age and the kids are well looked after.
