Never again, the service was bad!!, September 13, 2016
Reviewer: KarenP

Pros: NONE

Cons: Service, Food, Cabin, Drinks

Date of cruise: August 16, 2009

Departure port: New Orleans

Region visited: Mexico

Cabin category: Inside

Cabin number: 1410

Good for children: No

Good for teenagers: No

The cabin was bad, the bunk beds were slanted and had no rail so you had to hug the wall and pray you did not fall off.

It took forever to get a drink and they had little to no liquor in them. The service was bad, it seemed everyone hated their job. Our cabin boy was bad. The food was ok but it was really bad at night at the special dinners. You could not find a place to lay out, way too crowded with not a lot of chairs.

The entertainment was really boring. The casino was boring, the club was way overpacked. For smokers you had a few places to smoke. There were spots in the floor that were soft and wet.
The only easy part was getting off the ship, which we ran to get away from it.

This was my 4th cruise so, yes, I know my cruises and this was bad. There were 17 people in our group and everyone of them complained about it.
I want my money back that's how bad it was.

NEVER AGAIN, August 26, 2014
Reviewer: gwen and al

Pros: No opinion

Cons: Non-existent customer service and 'Don't Care' attitude

Date of cruise: August 21, 2014

Departure port: Galveston, Texas

Region visited: Caribbean - Western

Cabin category: Jr. Suite

Cabin number: 9205

My husband and I booked a short cruise (we haven't been on one in 15 years) for his B-day. We did this on the spur of the moment about two weeks before the ship was to sail. We booked a junior suite and an excursion in Cozumel. We spent a total of about $2,400 before we even left for our 300-mile drive to Galveston to board the ship.

We got to port around 12:45 and were actually ON the ship by 1:15. That was great! Everything looked like it was going to be fine UNTIL about 1:45 and we started for our room.

Going down the hall to stateroom 9205, the carpet looked stained or wet (looked liked there was a flood of some sort) and there was a funny smell, but as we got closer to our room, a VERY STRONG sickening chemical smell was overwhelming, and in our room, it was so strong it burned my eyes and swelled my throat. The room looked clean enough, although it was nothing like what the pictures show on the web, so don't get your hopes up.

I had to stand on the balcony just to be able to breathe. My husband opened the hallway door and when we kept that door and the balcony door opened, it allowed a good breeze to blow through and you were able to breathe in the room. We thought maybe they had just recently finished cleaning the room and that the smell would disappear after a while, so we left the room to explore the ship. We were excited and ready to set sail!

When we got back, it was it was actually worse. I tried to stand it, but my throat burned so bad I actually could not breathe. SO........, we headed for guest services, where we stood in line for about an hour and heard terrible stories from other unhappy folks in the ship. When we finally got to talk to someone, she came to the room and actually said she could barely smell anything....She stated that she had been on the ship for seven months and maybe she was just used to it?

The porter came in and said they used a nontoxic cleaning material but that they could put an ozone machine in the room to help the smell. By the way, I was on the balcony the whole time because I could not be in the room for more that a few minutes without getting sick.

The lady from guest services said they had no other rooms available. That left us with two choices: Stay on the ship and take our chances that the chemical irritation and smell will go away and we can actually sleep and bathe in the room, OR get off the ship. Because it actually seemed to be worse than better after a period of time, we chose to leave the ship before it sailed.

She said she could not offer a refund from the ship but that she would cancel our excursion so we would get that refunded and that she would write up a claim for us. She said that we would need to call the administration office find out if they would refund our money for the cruise ..... IF? We had no control over this and they could not provide any other accommodations. Obviously, we were very disappointed but felt that our health and well being was more important.

Also... there were two other people leaving the ship at the same time we did for the same reason.

I know this is long(sorry), so bear with me because this is the part and the reason I wrote this. I know a lot of people have gone on these cruises and have a wonderful time and I am not saying that you cannot do that on this cruise, of course you can. What I am saying is, that IF there are any issues at a all, do not expect that Carnival will care or that they have any kind of customer service-oriented behaviors, because they absolutely do not!!

We paid for a relaxing, fun 4-day cruise in a junior suite

What we got for our $2,400 was NO CRUISE, NO ROOM, ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE, 600 miles on our vehicle, $220 in gasoline and food to travel, mega stress, disappointment, missed vacation ......I have been told that they will graciously refund the taxes... $110. WOW, that is amazing! Thanks Carnival! You really do go above and beyond for your guests!

This is not over so I guess our stress will continue. It is obvious that something happened on the floor before the cruise and they used something VERY STRONG and toxic to clean and cover it up. I have made 10 phone calls so far, and have been conveniently disconnected twice, I keep being told to call someone else every time because the person I need to talk to is in a meeting, I have the wrong department etc., etc....on and on...It is almost like the are 'trained to stall'

Still don't know if we'll get our money back, but I wanted to share our experience so that others will know what to expect should you have a problem, even if Carnival is the cause of the problem.

We took the 5 day cruise from Galveston to Merida and Cozumel in early June. Although most of the shows were 'family friendly' I would not have let younger children go to them. Even the PG-13 shows, the stage dancers showed too much 'derrier'. However, there was always plenty to do for my teenagers. The excursions were awesome. We took the beach buggy at Punta del Sur in Cozumel. Some mechanical problems with a couple of buggies, which put us behind getting back and left no time to go shopping, anywhere. But the snorkeling and food sure was fun and good, respectively. All in all, we are ready to go on another cruise.
