In case you missed this special email we are publishing here in Currents for you….

A Gift from CruiseCompete CEO Bob Levinstein.

Thank you for being a member of CruiseCompete. Saving people time and money on their vacations has long been our passion. In that spirit, please let me tell you a story.

On December 2nd, I decided to take my family to Clearwater, Florida, for a week over Christmas break. I had a lot of points on a major high-end hotel brand and thought I might use those, but the point levels required for rooms over the holiday put this out of reach.

So I shopped around several major hotel sites: Expedia, Travelocity and Hotels.com. Holiday-season hotel rates can be brutal: the best they could do for the hotel I wanted was $229/night.

But as CruiseCompete was getting ready to announce our partnership with Last Minute Travel Club (LMTClub), I checked out their rates. Unbelievably, it was just $113.24 per night. For a four-star, major brand hotel right on the beach in Clearwater. Over Christmas break.

And while not all stories are true, mine is. Please click here:
https://www.cruisecompete.com/userhoteldeals.php
to see screen shots of the pricing I referenced above.

The reason these great deals are available is that LMTClub is different than other hotel sites. While other sites are just large, online travel agencies, LMTClub actually buys hotel rooms in bulk at discounted rates from more than 15,000 hotels, then resells those rooms and passes the savings on to you. While LMTClub usually charges an annual membership fee of $49.95, CruiseCompete members have access to these amazing hotel deals with no fee.

Thank you for the trust you put in CruiseCompete. It's an honor to have you as a customer.

Travel safe! I wish you and yours a fantastic year in 2015.

Cheers!

Those seeking a private island experience.
Coco Cay, which features the 20,000 square-foot aqua playground Caylana's Castle Cove, is an island designed exclusively for Caribbean and Celebrity passengers. It's a perfect spot for water lovers, featuring a white-sand beach, wave runners and snorkeling among coral reefs with vibrant tropical fish and sunken wrecks. Perhaps the most popular activity on Coco Cay, however, is parasailing, where guests ascend to 400 feet and get a bird's-eye view of the island.

The lines' second island, Labadee, has seen recent enhancements and now features seven different "neighborhoods" (Buccaneer's Bay, Dragon's Plaza, Labadee Town Square, Adrenaline Beach, Columbus Cove, Nellie's Beach and the Barefoot Beach Club) that have individualized offerings. Ride a rollercoaster at Adrenaline Beach, play at the aqua park in Columbus Cove or lounge in one of 20 private cabanas at the Beach Club (an experience exclusive to guests residing in a Grand Suite or above).

The private islands offer the chance to relax and have your every need catered to. They're a memorable way to feel like a VIP on your next cruise vacation

You consider yourself having a great deal of knowledge about the fine arts, cuisines or an expert judge in matters of taste.

You are looking for exceptional service, a certain level of comfort and style, unique in today's world.

If you don't wish to spend your time in waterparks on board and new experiences for your children and family

CruiseCompete has added Viking Ocean Cruises to its cruise offerings of almost 40 distinct cruise lines. Viking Ocean Cruises® will launch three ocean ships – Viking  Sea and Viking Sky will both debut in 2016 and will be sister ships to the 930-passenger Viking Star, which is currently under construction and will set sail in early 2015. Like their sister ship, Viking Sea and Viking Sky will sail in Scandinavia & the Baltic and the Western & Eastern Mediterranean.

Viking Ocean Cruises’ first ocean ship – the 930-passenger Viking Star, to be christened in May – will take on its first guests in April in its maiden season in Scandinavia & the Baltic and the Western & Eastern Mediterranean.

Here’s what to expect from their new ship, the Viking Star:
Viking Star

Classified by some as a “small ship,” the 930-passenger all-veranda Viking Star – as well as its two sister ships, Viking Sea and Viking Sky – is engineered at a scale that allows direct access into most ports, so guests have easy and efficient embarkation and debarkation. Light-filled and intimate, the ship features understated elegance and modern Scandinavian design. Highlights include:
  • All Veranda Staterooms: Guests can choose from five stateroom categories, starting from a 270 sq. ft. veranda stateroom, all with private verandas, king-size beds, large showers and LCD TVs.
  • Explorer Suites: Viking Star features 14 Explorer Suites, which are two-room suites ranging from 757 to 1,163 sq. ft. that offer sweeping views from wrap-around private verandas as well as the most amenities and privileges of any category onboard.
  • Two Pool Choices: In addition to the Main Pool with a retractable dome permitting any-season swimming, the ship features a glass-backed infinity pool, cantilevered off the stern, allowing passengers to swim surrounded by their destination.
  • The Spa: In keeping with Viking’s Nordic heritage, The Spa onboard is designed with the holistic wellness philosophy of Scandinavia in mind—from the centuries-old tradition of the sauna to a “snow grotto” where snowflakes gently descend from the ceiling through chilled air   .More…

About Viking Ocean Cruises (Part of Viking River Cruises) Exploring the World in Comfort®

Whether on river or ocean cruises, Viking Cruises offers cruises that are destination focused and carefully crafted with a mix of cosmopolitan and smaller ports of interest.

With three sister ocean-going ships now on order, Viking developed its ocean cruises by leveraging extensive feedback and input from Viking River Cruises® passengers, and with experienced travelers in mind. Itineraries are designed for maximum time in port, often with late evenings or overnights, so guests can experience local nightlife or evening performances. Ports include both cosmopolitan cities and “collector ports,” and appeal to those with an interest in history, art and culture. In addition, Viking Inclusive Cruising provides unparalleled value—with every cruise fare including a veranda stateroom, shore excursions in each port of call, all onboard meals, and all port charges and government taxes. Guests also enjoy many complimentary amenities as part of their fare, including: beer and wine with lunch and dinner service; Wi-Fi; self-service laundry and 24-hour room service—a value of more than $2,400 per couple for an average cruise.

Viking Ocean Cruises is best for:

Those who love a new ship, couples who have cruised on Viking River and, at this time we believe all types of travelers, will like this new experience.

Those interested in a destination immersion.

Those who prefer a more all-inclusive experience.

All About Viking River Cruises

Viking River Cruises Specials

Viking River Cruises can be said to dominate the rivers of the world, as the line keeps adding record numbers of boats to a fleet that is already the world's largest. Viking's ships are the largest and the most contemporary. In 2014, the line will launch 14 new ships; 16 new longship-class ships will launch in 2015.

(In 2015, Viking will debut its state-of-the-art Viking Star, for a maiden season of ocean cruising; another ship is ordered for 2016 and two more for 2017.)

The Viking longships were designed by the same team responsible for the yachts of Seabourn; they have a variety of stateroom classes (all with outside views), from the standard (which are thoughtfully laid out and, at 150 square feet, are bigger than those on other Viking boats) to the 445-square-foot Explorer Suites, which have private wraparound verandas and offer spectacular 270 degree views.

These ships are "green" and feature energy-efficient hybrid engines (quieter and less vibration), solar panels and organic herb gardens.

A signature feature is the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, a combination casual dining venue and lounge. Retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors make it possible to admire the passing scenery regardless of weather conditions.

Viking is constantly adding "Explore More" land extensions, which allow guests to extend their stays and to explore such notable cities as Bruges, Krakow, Nuremberg and Prague, as well as the French Riviera and Lake Geneva. These extensions begin with a walking tour to familiarize guests with the area and also include high-quality hotel accommodations, with a Viking Concierge available on-site.

Thanks to a product that represents solid value, Viking has a high rate of customer loyalty and has been commended by Travel + Leisure , Conde Nast Traveler's Gold List, and National Geographic's The 10 Best of Everything, among others.

Like other lines, Viking occasionally runs such specials as 2-for-1 sales and elimination or reduction of the single supplement.

Viking River Cruises is best for:

Mature, well-traveled singles and couples who want a destination-centric river cruise;
Travelers who have an interest in the geography, culture and history of their cruise itinerary;
Younger, active adults who wish to try a destination-centric river cruise on a ship with contemporary style.

The atmosphere and experience onboard Viking River Cruises:

Picture a very comfortable, well-designed, contemporary-style hotel with inviting public spaces, floating on the world's rivers in a leisurely fashion. Onboard activities are minimal and tend to focus on enrichment: lectures, theme dinners featuring regional specialties and local musicians.

The ships have a contemporary and comfortable decor, with inviting public spaces where passengers can socialize. All cabins feature outside views -- and many have French balconies.

Every onshore day starts with a walking tour with knowledgeable local guides who offer an orientation to each port, as well as suggestions for personal exploration.

Food is good, though not "gourmet." Dress is casual, somewhat dressier for the captain's dinner and farewell dinner.

The destinations served by Viking River Cruises:
  • China
  • Southeast Asia
  • Europe
  • Russia and Ukraine
  • Egypt
  • U.S. Mississippi River (2015)
The clientele of Viking River Cruises:

Passengers are generally English-speaking, well-traveled and well-educated. Many are repeat guests and many, if not most passengers on a given cruise are 60+ or over and retired, people who enjoy immersing themselves in the history and culture of the regions visited. However, with the building of so many sleek longships and so many itineraries worldwide, the line aims to attract more 40+ and 50+ passengers. The China and Asia cruises already attract some younger travelers.

Regarding children onboard Viking River Cruises: Due to the nature of their cruise itineraries, Viking River Cruises does not maintain facilities or services for children aboard river cruise vessels. On all cruises and cruise journeys, minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied and share a stateroom with a parent, legal guardian or other responsible adult over the age of 21. They reserve the right to limit the number of minors under the age of 18 years on board.
