Our New Cruise Forum, Visualize Your Cruise with a Fantastic Video Cruise Library, Cindy’s Silver Spirit Experience from the Canary Islands to Fort Lauderdale and Montevideo on Holland America’s Veendam

Hello dear Readers,

Sending you and your families warm holiday wishes from our entire team. Thank you for using CruiseCompete.

Whether you view this time of year as a cause for celebration of faith, family or friends, the holiday season holds a special place in our hearts and minds. It’s a time of gathering and merriment, of reflection and gratitude. Some of the most precious moments in life are during this season of giving, and the best gift we can give is often one of time spent with those we love.

New Cruise Forum – As we end this year and look forward to 2013 we would like to announce our new cruise forum, for readers and experts to share ideas, impressions and reviews of the cruise lines and their ships. This is going to be a fantastic way to have discussions and share information within our cruise community. Watch for updates on this upcoming feature!

Robert W. Bone recently sailed on Holland America from Chile to Argentina. We arrive in Valparaiso and board Holland America’s Veendam. This historic coastal town is about an hour’s bus ride from the capital of Santiago, and you know you’re there when you begin seeing houses fastened cheek-by-jowl on the sides of some steep hills. Ancient funicular railroads still operate in some neighborhoods. The city was often called “Little San Francisco” when it was……………. More……………..

46 Sacred, Spiritual or Miraculous Sites to Visit via a Cruise Ship 100+ cruise itineraries allow access to locations where human understanding is confounded.
If all this talk puts you in a spiritual state of mind, take a look at our list of sacred sites accessible by cruise ships…here are some examples.

1.       Paris, France, Mont-St.-Michael. Gaze across the waters off the beaches of Normandy toward a granite island and Abbey that is accessible by a 2–mile pilgrimage across the tidal flat. Thousands cross its waters every year on September 29th at Michaelmas to draw strength from the archangel Michael.

2.       Delhi, India, Rishikesh. This city is known as the center of yoga and Ayurvedik healing. It is also the site of the annual International Yoga Festival. Riskikesh became famous worldwide in 1967 following a visit from the Beatles. This trip is best made pre- or post-cruise, as it requires a 6-7 hour car ride from the port of Delhi.

3.       Copacabana, South America, Islands of the Sun and Moon. Located on the expanse of Lake Titicaca, Isla Del Sol and Isla Del La Luna are ancient holy sites of the Inca. Yumani, Isla del Sol’s main town, is home to the “Fountain of Youth.”

Eurodam library offers books galore & my sister tries acupuncture – a popular treatment at sea
What is an avid reader to do? Of course, there will be a library on the Eurodam, I assured Elaine. Most ships I have been on have had a book collection of some sort for guests. Maybe a windowless little cubbyhole somewhere or a small room with a few skimpy bookcases. But the Eurodam is a whole different world. What a surprising library it has.

“That is one thing that sets apart the Holland America Line from other cruise ships,” said librarian Kat Hanold. That’s right – the Eurodam has a librarian. And a library with more than 4,000 books, plus a “take-one, leave-one” section where passengers can exchange a read once they are done with it. ABOARD THE EURODAM – With acupuncture needles sticking out of her body, my sister Elaine might be thinking she is nuts. Why did she choose this spa treatment? She could be pampered with a soothing aromatherapy massage or relaxing seaweed facial. Why is she letting a woman stick needles in her?
More from Jackie Finch about her recent Caribbean cruise on the Eurodam
