The Family Friendly Cruise Travel Planner has been updated for 2017!  Get your complimentary copy now!

While there is a perfect cruise vacation for everyone, not every cruise line is the ideal match for every family. Some lines have minimum age requirements for children (and pregnancy policies for expectant parents!), and others don't permit children to sail at all. In addition, while a line may allow children to sail, it’s not a given that the line has specially designed children’s programs in place.

With these things in mind, determining the best cruise line for your family takes careful research, preparation and planning. The travel experts at CruiseCompete have composed the “2017 Family-Friendly Cruise Travel Planner,” which details every aspect of the family cruise vacation experience.

The “2016 Family-Friendly Cruise Travel Planner” is designed to kick-start your cruise vacation planning, and covers the entire spectrum of options with information on mainstream lines like Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line, as well as unique alternatives like luxury, river and small ship excursion companies.

All information has been compiled in an easy-to-read format, with brief “at-a-glance” summaries to see if the cruise line fits your basic requirements, followed by more detailed information about the atmosphere on board, the destinations you can travel to and the specific programs available for children.

All About Disney Cruise Line:

Best for:

Anyone who loves the magic of Disney and wants a big-ship cruise experience rich with activities for the whole family. While the focus is on the young (and young at heart), Disney has wisely created adults- only areas (pools, restaurants, spas and nightclubs) on all its ships and on the line's private island, Castaway Cay. The Disney Dream, for example, has a section called The District, which encompasses several lounges and nightclubs and caters to adults in the evening. Perfect for family reunions and multigenerational families who understand and appreciate the Disney product.

Atmosphere and experience onboard:

For a line that's focused on kids and their families, and which offers comfortably casual cruise experiences, Disney has created elegant, modern ships with features that can be appreciated by young and old alike. The oversize staterooms can accommodate a family of four (some family cabins hold six); all have bathtubs (a must for little kids), TV, hairdryers and safes; about 40 percent have verandahs. Some cabins have the luxury of an added half-bath.

As might be expected from Disney, the children's programs are exceptional at every level, from the nurseries to the teen options. There are hands-on science programs, high-tech interactive programs, treasure hunts and just about everything to amuse, entertain and enrich young passengers. Depending on the ship, older kids might get video games, listening stations, smoothie bars and even outdoor hot tubs. The technology throughout the newer ships – high-speed computers, motion sensors, LCD screens-is so dazzling that adults, too, are drawn to the interactive "art" and the "magic" floors.

Disney has wisely created adults-only areas (restaurants, lounges, clubs and spas) on all ships, as well as the line's private island, Castaway Cay. As the passenger list is made up mostly of families, the adults-only areas are generally pleasantly uncrowded.

Clientele:

Adults and families who want a fully immersive Disney experience. Some honeymooners who see romance in Disney.

Policies regarding children onboard:
A child needs to be at least 12 weeks old on the date you sail. A nursery is available for children 3 months old to 3 years, and children's programs are available for children from 3 to 17.

And if you're taking a Disney Cruise leaving from Florida, take the opportunity to visit Disney World while you are there... here are some blogs from some recent visit to the Magic Kingdom... a destination that delights visitors of all ages.

Your “Must Do” Disney World Vacation with the Kids: Here’s How to Make It Memorable- With more than 50,000 daily visitors, Disney World is the #1 theme park in the world by attendance.  Especially in North America, those with children are likely to find their way to Disney World sooner or later.  With a little pre-planning, you can ensure that your trip will leave you and your family with many lifetime memories.

To begin your visit, you will want to ensure that your Orlando-area lodgings are as pleasurable – and convenient – as feasible.  A stellar choice would be the Four Seasons Resort at Disney World, located right on the grounds of the fabled theme park.  The ambience begins with their beautiful marble lobby and the check-in staff that will greet you with a cheerfulness guaranteed to get your stay off to a terrific start.  More....

Our Family’s Visit to Disney and the Four Seasons Walt Disney World Resort- DISNEY: Just saying the word invokes so many feelings for so many people. It’s a magical, expensive, wonderfully tiring trip, that in the end, brings joy to the whole family!

Growing up in Florida, I had many chances to visit Walt Disney World with my parents, and I wanted to make sure our girls got to experience the same magic that I remember loving as a child. So, on one of our annual trips to South Florida to visit family, my husband and I figured it was a perfect time to sneak in a 3-day Disney trip.

Deciding where to stay at Disney was probably one of the most time-consuming choices I’ve made in a while.  I can’t even count how many times I researched EVERY hotel on and off Disney expansive property. We finally made the decision to stay at The Four Seasons Walt Disney World Resort, and I couldn’t have been happier with our choice!  More...
